Nima was 80 km from home when he started a trip that took him even farther from home. He travelled at a speed of 28 km/h. Write an equation you could solve to determine how many hours he travelled to get 150 km from home. Solve the equation.

Explanation:

Initially Nima was 80 km away from home and he travelled further. His final position was 150 km away from home. Distance travelled by Nima:

= 150 \: km - 80 \: km

= 70 \: km

He travelled this distance at a speed of 28 km/hr. We know, speed is the total distance travelled divided by total time taken. Then total time can be calculated by distance travelled / speed of the body.

Time taken by Nima:

= \large{ \frac{70 \: km}{28 \: km {hr}^( - 1) } }

= 5 \: hrs

~Nima travelled for 5 hours at a speed of 28 km/hr.

S1 = 80 km
S2 = 150 km
V = 28 km/h

ΔS = S2 -S1
t = ΔS/V = 70/28
t = 2.5 hours
