In Mississippi, a Black woman signs a one-year

contract for a job cleaning houses, but she quits
after three months because her boss doesn't
allow her to take any breaks. Her boss refuses
to pay her for the work she has done, so she
goes to court. What happens?

Answer:

All contracts for labor made with freedmen, free negroes, and

mulattoes for a longer period than one month shall be in writing…

and if the laborer shall quit the service of the employer before the

expiration of his term of service, without good cause, she shall for feit [surrender] her wages for that year up to the time of quitting

Explanation:

Due to the Black Codes or Black Laws that restricted the freedom and movement of Black people, life wasn't simple, they were forced to work for low wages. Most of these laws were passed in the South from 1865-1866.

I hope this helps ✌️
