Why do u think the spinal cord runs through the middle of the bones (verterbrae) of your backbone?

Answer: It is where the nerves could easily spread.

Step-by-step explanation:

The back is connected to most of the parts of the body, so running down the middle of the vertebrae means that it could more easily reach other body parts. This means faster response as well.

Secondly, it has to be protected by the vertebrae. Each of the vertebrae is hollow to do just that.
