Answer:

x= the number of apples

y = the number of bananas

he bought $9 worth of apples and bananas--->x+y=9

Amadou bought 4 times more apples than bananas.--->

x = 4y

we have :

x+y=9

x=4y

we replace x in the 1st equation: 4y+y=9

Each apple costs $1 and each banana costs $0.50.

4(1)+0.5y=9

4.5y=9

y=9/4.5=2

he bought 2 bananas

He bought 4 times as many apples as bananas = 2*4 = 8apples

he bought 8 apples
