Throughout this course, you've been reading, writing, and thinking about relationships between individuals and society. Now it's time to consider your relationship to your own society -- the community where you live. Brainstorm at least three societal problems which exist where you live (or where you go to school). Preferably, these problems are ones which have a direct effect on you or people you know. Examples might be issues like:

I can't get into the high school I really want to go to because of the admission guidelines of my school district. This doesn't seem fair because I make good grades, and the school is just three blocks from my house.
There are lots of stray dogs and cats that run wild around my neighborhood. I hit one with my car the other day. It makes me sad, and I wonder what I could do about it.
There's a city park near me, and it's turned in to a real dump. My mom has tried to get the city to clean it up, but they say there's no money.
Now come up with your own list. Write at least a paragraph each about 3 specific problems which exist in your community. Be sure to explain how these problems affect your life or lives around you. Submit your 3 paragraphs below, and wait for teacher feedback before you do anything else.

Answer:there are several societal problems that have a direct effect on me and the people around me. One problem is the lack of affordable housing. Many families struggle to find decent and affordable housing options, which leads to overcrowding and high rental prices. This affects me personally because I have friends who have to live in cramped apartments or move frequently due to rising rent costs. It also affects the overall community because it creates instability and insecurity for many families.

Another problem is the inadequate public transportation system. The buses are often late or unreliable, making it difficult for people to get to work, school, or appointments on time. This affects me as a student because I rely on public transportation to get to school every day. It also affects the wider community as it limits access to job opportunities and essential services for many people.

Lastly, there is a lack of access to affordable healthcare in my community. Many people struggle to afford medical treatments and medications, leading to delayed or inadequate healthcare. This affects me because I have witnessed friends and family members who have had to postpone necessary medical procedures or skip medication doses due to financial constraints. It also impacts the overall well-being and quality of life for individuals in the community.

These three societal problems - lack of affordable housing, inadequate public transportation, and limited access to affordable healthcare - have a direct impact on my life and the lives of those around me. They create barriers to success, limit opportunities, and cause unnecessary hardship.
