For this you will have to use PEMDAS. It stands for Parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. You start at P and work your way down to S according to the problem.

Start with parenthesis -500 x (90/100) +1000

ninety divided by one hundred is 0.9

The problem is now

-500 x 0.9 +1000

No exponents so now multiply

-500 x 0.9=-450

then it is -450 +1000

Now you can add to get 550
