Answer: George Calvert, John Oglethorpe, and John Smith

Step-by-step explanation:

These men first settled in the Southern area of the U.S.

They all settled in this unknown territory at the time, where only native Americans lived. This was to have a place where they were free from religious persecution and can do trades & profits.

George Calvert, had left England to find religious freedom for Catholics like him. He settled in the city of Baltimore. He found this was a good area because of its location near the seaside and thought it could be a good trading port. He decided to bring his family and about 40 others to establish a colony there. He called it Maryland.

John Smith, had left England to also make money. He settled in the city of Jamestown. He along with the help of his country England, colonized this for profit, and he led the development of the rest of the colony. The colony was named after the first baby born there, Virginia.

John Oglethorpe, had left England to find make money. He settled in the city of Savannah. He also founded this place to help poor people have a better life. He eventually started gathering more people, and discovered it was a good area for farming and raising people. The colony was named after the king who approved it. King George II (the second). It was called Georgia

These were just the Southeast U.S. colonies. Soon after, most Northeast colonies had been founded, until the 13 original colonies were made, and were called the United States of America. At that time, the flag only had 13 stars

England may have claimed the land first, but Native Americans have been living in the U.S. the longest.

Hope that helped a lot.
