Answer :

  • 600 votes

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume the total number of votes be x

There were only two candidates in an election. One got 62% votes and was elected by a margin of 144 votes.

If one of them got 62% votes Then the other got (100 - 62)% = 38% votes.

According to the question They were elected by margin of 144 votes.

\sf(62- 38) \% \: of \: x = 144

\sf (24)/(100)x= 144

\sf 24x = 144 * 100

\sf 24x = 14400

Divide both the sides by 24

\sf x = 600

Hence the total number of votes are 600
