In Lucy’s class there are 12 boys and 18 girls. Write the ratio of girls:boys in its simplest form.

⇒ girls/boys = 18/12 = (3 × 6)/( 2 × 6) = 3/2

We can write the ratio this way:

Girls : Boys

There are 18 girls and 12 boys. Therefore, the ratio is :

18 : 12

Divide by 6

3 : 2

We could also write it as a fraction:
(18)/(12), then reduce it by dividing the top & bottom by 6:
(3)/(2)

Once again, we get 3/2. Therefore, the ratio of girls to boys in Lucy's class is 3/2.
