Answer: There are 36 cows for 48 donkeys.

We are given the following information:

  • The ratio of cow to donkey's is 3 to 4
  • There are 48 donkeys

We have to find

  • How many cows based off the ratio.

Since the ratio is 3:4, it means that for every 3 cows there are four donkeys.

We would set up the path to our answer like this:
(3)/(4) =(x)/(48)

Through the wonders that is mental math, we can recognize that 48 is divisible by 12 4 times. Implying that is the answer we need to multiply by 3 in order to get our missing ratio'ed number of cows.

We then arrive at 36.
(3)/(4) =(36)/(48)
