Answer:

7x + 3x - 6

Explanation:

So we're asked to write an equation that gives the total number of cookies delivered.

We Know: Holly baked 7 dozen chocolate chip cookies and 3 dozen oatmeal cookies but before she delivered them, her family ate 4 oatmeal cookies and 2 chocolate chip cookies.

First things first, what's a dozen?

A dozen is equivalent to 12

so if I were to say I made 3 dozen donuts each day, that means I made 36 donuts per day because 3 × 12 = 36

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Now that we know what's a dozen, let's calculate how many chocolate chip cookies Holly baked and how many oatmeal cookies Holly baked!

7 dozen = 7 × 12 = 84 (chocolate chip cookies)

3 dozen = 3 × 12 = 36 (oatmeal cookies)

36 - 4 = 32 (her family ate 4 oatmeal cookies so therefore we subtract 4 from 36)

84 - 2 = 82 (her family ate 2 chocolate chip cookies so therefore we subtract 2 from 84)

Equation: 7x + 3x - 6 where x represents dozen

7x + 3x - 6

7(12) + 3(12) - 6

84 + 36 - 6

120 - 6

114 (which is the total number of cookies delivered)
