f(1) = 7

f(4) = -2

f(x) = -x² + 2x + 6

Put x = 1

f(1) = -(1)² + 2(1) + 6

f(1) = -1 + 2 + 6

f(1) = 1 + 6

f(1) = 7

Now, Put x = 4

f(4) = -(4)^2 + 2(4) + 6

f(4) = -16 + 8 + 6

f(4) = -16 + 14

f(4) = -2

By comparing the two values, we get to know that f(1) is positive while f(4) is negative.
