A trapezoid has the vertices A (1, 0), B(2, 6), C(4, -4), and D(-4, 0). A', B', C', and D' are the vertices of the trapezoid after a translation of 5 units to the left and 3 units up. Find the vertices B' and D'.

Answer:

B' (- 3, 9 ) , D' (- 9, 3 )

Explanation:

a translation of 5 units left means subtract 5 from the original x- coordinate

a translation of 3 units up means add 5 to the original y- coordinate

translation rule is (x, y ) → (x - 5, y + 3 ) , then

B (2, 6 ) → B' (2 - 5, 6 + 3 ) → B' (- 3, 9 )

D (- 4, 0 ) → D' (- 4 - 5, 0 + 3 ) → D' (- 9, 3 )
