3x + 3y = 6
x + 6y = 7

x = 1

Explanation:

3x + 3y = 6 → (1)

x + 6y = 7 → (2)

multiplying (1) by - 2 and adding to (2) will eliminate y

- 6x - 6y = - 12 → (3)

add (2) and (3) term by term to eliminate y

(x - 6x) + (6y - 6y) = 7 - 12

- 5x + 0 = - 5

- 5x = - 5 ( divide both sides by - 5 )

x = 1
