sum the parts of the ratio and equate to 44, then solve for x

3x + 8x = 44

11x = 44 ( divide both sides by 11 )

x = 4

then

3x = 3 × 4 = 12

8x = 8 × 4 = 32

the 2 numbers are 12 and 32 with 32 being the greater of the two
