Choose between creating a play OR writing a paper. Include at least five appropriate terms from this week's content.
Option 1: Germ Transmission Play
In this 1.5-2 page (single-spaced) play, you are the writer and director. Your team of "characters" should include the following:
• a germ
• a patient
• a nurse • an x-ray tech
• an environmental services person
• anyone else you want to add
Create a short skit that involves hidden germs (check that tissue box and fingernails!), modes of transportation, patient protection, PPE for the health care workers, and the like. Consider the goal of each character. (The germ wants to live and spread, for example.) Who will emerge victorious in your scenario? (Note: It is acceptable to let humans fail in the play-just not in real life!)
It is acceptable to leave out some information that would be important medically, but is not relevant to the transmission of germs; for example, the patient's vital signs are not important, but maybe the contact of the blood pressure cuff is critical to a germ moving to the next patient.
Example Scene
Scene 1: Five health care workers are transferring a patient from the ambulance gurney to the emergency room stretcher.
EMS Todd: "On the count of 3..." The group works together to slide the patient safely.
EMS Pam: "We have a 57 year old Hispanic woman found collapsed by her mailbox. A neighbor discovered her. We don't know how long she had been there. BP is... Will you sign this transfer sheet?" (Hands clipboard to ER nurse.)
Option 2: Germ Transmission Paper
Using at least two resources, write 250-500 words explaining how germs are transferred from one person or object to another. Be sure to include a minimum of five terms from this week's content (e.g., nosocomial) and highlight, bold, italicize, or underscore them.
