Answer: Brother: 18$ You: 54$

Explanation:

To find how much money you have, you will have to know that if your brother has 1$ you have 3$ this results in a total of 4$. This means that if x is your brothers money then you have 3x. 3x+x=4x. In this case 4x=72 which means x =18 and your brother has 18$. So you have 54$.

Answer:

You have $54, and your brother has $18.

Explanation:

Since you have 3 times your brother's money, there are 4 equal parts of money. You have 3 parts, and your brother has one part. This creates the equation $72=4x. Then solve for x (parts).

$72=4x

$72/4=x

$18=x

Your brother has 1 part, so 1 x $18=$18

You have 3 parts, so 3 x $18=$54
