Subtracting fractions with unlike denominators is tricky. Because you'll have to basically make them like denominators. Like this:

\cfrac{9}{16}-\cfrac{3}{8}

Obviously, 16 and 8 are not the same. Well, unless we perform some operation that will turn 8 into 16, we won't be able to add them.

The best thing is to multiply 8 by 2:

\cfrac{9}{16}-\cfrac{3\cdot2}{8\cdot2}

\cfrac{9}{16}-\cfrac{6}{16}

We can now subtract.

\cfrac{3}{16}

Answer :

\cfrac{3}{16}
