Some of the characteristics of the Cosine Curve include:

  • a hill and valley pattern in its graph
  • a domain of all real numbers
  • an even function

The last characteristic is very important to answer this question. An even function is a function in which it stays they same when flipped across the y axis (vertically).

Some functions, like y =
√(x) changes when flipped vertically, because it is not symmetric to the y-axis.

However, because a cosine curve is symmetric to the y axis, it is an even function, and vice versa.
