We're given the function f(x) = -x - 1, and asked to solve for x when f(x) = 6.

So what I do is I substitute 6 for f(x):

6 = -x - 1

And now, I have an equation with one unknown.

-x - 1 = 6

-x = 6 + 1

-x = 7

x = -7

Answer :

x = -7
