One full glass contains vinegar and water in the ratio 1: 3. Another glass with twice the capacity of the first has vinegar and water in the ratio 1: 4. If the contents of both glasses

are mixed together, what is the ratio of vinegar to water?

Explanation:

Lets say the glasses are 10 and 20 ounces

Glass one has 1/4 * 10 = 2.5 oz of vinegar

Glass two has 1/5 x 20 = 4 oz of vinegar

so the total combined vinegar is 6.5 oz out of 30

6.5 oz is vinegar and 23.5 is water ( total 30 ounces)

6.5 : 23.5 is the same as 13 : 47 ( multiply both numbers by '2' )
