Marjorie had been waiting for Russ to call all day. What could possibly

be keeping him? She went home and tried her best to sleep. Just after
she managed to slip into some fitful dreams, her phone suddenly
began buzzing. She picked it up. "Russ?" she said.
Which ending to the scene would create the most suspense?
A. "I heard back from the doctor," Russ said, "and it turns out that I
have the flu."
B. It was Russ. He explained that he had been fighting aliens but that
he had won.
C. She heard Russ's voice: "Sorry, I forgot to call you. I won't let it
happen again."
D. "Marjorie," Russ said. "Listen carefully. There's something you need
to know."

Answer:

D. "Marjorie," Russ said. "Listen carefully. There's something you need

to know."

Step-by-step explanation:

This one gives suspense because it leaves us wondering what could Russ possibly want to tell Marjorie. We as humans are curious and start to wonder about all the possible things Russ could say to Marjorie that he wants to tell her. This sentence leaves us asking if something wrong happened, if he did something bad, if there is an important secret he must share, etc. Answer A, and B dont have much suspense because it clearly explains what happens. Answer C leaves only a very little bit of suspense but not nearly as much as D.
