All interior angles of a triangle must add up to 180°.

So, write an equation:

180=40+2(11x-18)

simplify

180=40+22x-36

simplify again

180=4+22x

subtract 4 from both sides

176=22x

divide both sides by 22

8=x

So, x=8.

Now each base angle (<F and <D) are both 11x-18, because sides EF and ED are equal.

So, write an equation for one base angle:

11x-18

and substitute x=8 for x

11x-18

=11(8)-18

=88-18

=70

So each base angle is 70°.
