Answer:

The number of people who are aged less than 50 years is 54,000.

Explanation:

we are given that 50% of the population are aged more than 50 years

with 6,000 people being exactly the age of 50 making up 5% of the population

to find out the total population we can do

6,000 x 100 = 600,000

600,000/5 = 120,000

thus there are 120,000 total people

half of them are older than 50 years

so

6,000 people are exactly 50 and 60,000 is older than 50

120,000 - (6,000 + 60,000) = 54000

number of people younger than 50 years old = 54,000
