Answer:

68 square units

Explanation:

This is a composite figure, and you can break it down into a rectangle and a triangle.

Area of the Triangle:

A = 1/2Bh

  • The base of the triangle is 8 cm
  • The height is 12-5 which is 7. (You subtract height of rectangle from total height)
  • Now plug in the values. (8x7)/2 = 56/2 = 28

Area of the rectangle:

A= Bh

  • The base of the rectangle is 8 cm
  • The height of the rectangle is 5 cm
  • Now plug in the values (8x5) = 40

Area of Total Shape:

Area of Triangle + Area of Rectangle

  • Plug in your values: 28 + 40 = 68

The area of the total composite figure is 68 square units

Hope this helps!

Answer:

68

Explanation:

First solve for the area of the rectangle

Area = L · W

Area = 5 · 8

Area = 40 cm^2

Then solve for the area of the triangle

Area =
(1)/(2) bh

Area =
(1)/(2) (8)(7)

Area =
(1)/(2) (56)

Area = 28 cm^2

Finally add the area of the rectangle and the area of the triangle

40 + 28 = 68 cm^2
