You will be writing a letter to the editor of The New York Times where you will:

Address the human rights problem (either the example from Mexico of one you have spoken to your teacher about).
Describe how this creates a world of fear where the government struggles to protect basic rights of its citizens.
Describe how people navigate/live in a world of fear.
Describe how you live in a world of fear.
Discuss whether you agree or disagree with actions that are being taken to meet these challenges.
Discuss ways that you and others might address these challenges at a local, national, and global view.
You may want to reference how it violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Based on Pickering and similar cases, teachers generally enjoy rights to freedom of expression, though there are some restrictions. Teachers may not materially disrupt the educational interest of the school district, nor may teachers undermine authority or adversely affect working relationships at the school.
