100 POINTS!!

If you have been keeping up with the tasks you set for yourself on the “Find French at Home” assignments, you are well on your way to becoming a lifelong French learner. As you know by now, having regular habits of conversing with French speakers, getting information from French sources, and participating in French cultural events, can set you up for unique opportunities throughout your life. Take a few moments to reflect on your experience developing these habits, and how you imagine your connection to French unfolding over the next several years. Write one paragraph about your experience developing these habits and how you project you will stay connected to French and its culture.

In a second paragraph, reflect on how knowing French will help you in your life academically, personally, socially, and even professionally. Give specific examples and details.

Here is a possible two paragraph response:

I have found it helpful developing regular habits connected to French. Talking to Kelsey once a week has improved my vocabulary and comfort speaking aloud. Reading current events from Le Monde gives me a glimpse into French perspectives. Watching French films has exposed me to different accents and expressions. These simple routines have shown me that keeping French alive in my life does not need to be difficult or time consuming.

Knowing French will enrich my life in many ways. Academically, it will open up new material in literature, philosophy, and history. Personally, conversing in French will connect me to a new culture and way of thinking. Socially, it will expand my network to include francophones in my community and beyond. Professionally, French will make me a more knowledgeable and worldly candidate for future career opportunities that involve international business, diplomacy, or travel. Mastering a new language and culture has already made me a more empathetic and flexible thinker, skills that will benefit me for the rest of my life.
