Solve each system by elimination

2x- 3y = 14 - - - - (1)

2x + y = -10 - - - - (2)

Subtract equation 1 and 2 .

  • - 4y = -24

Divide both sides by 4,

  • y = 6

Now, sustitute the value of y in eqn. 1,

  • 2x- 3y = 14
  • 2x + 3(6) = 14

Simplify the equation,

  • 2x + 18 = 14

Subtract 24 from both sides,

  • 2x + 24 - 24 = 14 - 18
  • 2x = - 4

Divide both sides by 2,

  • x = - 2

Henceforth, x = -2 and y = 6 .

Similarly,

x + 3y = -7- - - - (1)

- x + 2y = -8- - - - (2)

Add both the equation,

  • 5y = -15

Divide both sides by 5,

  • y = -3

Substitute the value of y in eqn. 1

  • x + 3y = -7
  • x + 3(-3) = -7

Simplify the equation

  • x -9 = -7

Add 9 on both sides,

  • x - 9 + 9 = -7 + 9
  • x = 2

Henceforth value of x is 2 and y is -3
