Here is a summary of the key events and important details from each chapter of AMBUSHED! by Gail Jarrow:

Chapter 1:

• The story is set in ancient Egypt during the Hyksos invasion.

• The main character is Nakht, a young Egyptian who witnesses the Hyksos conquer his village. His parents are killed.

Chapter 2:

• Nakht is captured by the Hyksos and taken as a slave to their capital city of Avaris. He meets fellow slaves Dasima and Ipu.

• Nakht learns that the Hyksos rule Egypt through fear and cruelty.

Chapter 3:

• Nakht and his friends plot an escape from Avaris. They meet Nebira, an elderly slave who tells them stories of Egypt's great pharaohs.

• Nebira inspires Nakht to dream of Egypt being free from the Hyksos again.

Chapter 4:

• Nakht, Dasima and Ipu finally make their escape from Avaris but are almost caught.

• They make their way to Thebes, the last Egyptian city not yet conquered by the Hyksos.

Chapter 5:

• In Thebes, Nakht meets Seqenenra, the king who is leading the resistance against the Hyksos.

• Seqenenra asks Nakht to become a scout and spy on the Hyksos to help with their battle plans.

Chapter 6:

• Nakht begins spying on the Hyksos army by posing as a slave at a tavern they frequent. He learns about their battle tactics and troop movements.

• Nakht also learns that the Hyksos king is planning to capture Seqenenra and take over all of Egypt.

Chapter 7:

• Nakht tells Seqenenra all he has learned. They begin planning how to trick and ambush the Hyksos army before they reach Thebes.

• Seqenenra promises Nakht that once Egypt is free, he will be rewarded for his help.

Chapter 8:

• Nakht leads the Egyptian ambush that surprises and overwhelms the Hyksos forces outside Thebes.

• Many Hyksos soldiers are killed but Nakht takes no pleasure in the battle, seeing the human cost of all such conflicts.

Hope this helps get you started! Let me know if you have any other questions.
