Randy is throwing a cheeseburger picnic for his friends. He has 210 hamburger buns, 110 hamburger patties, and 8 blocks of cheese. If each block of cheese can be cut into 15 slices, and each cheeseburger needs two buns, a patty and a slice of cheese, how many cheeseburgers can he have at his picnic?

Answer:

105 cheeseburgers

Explanation:

We are given that: 1 cheese block = 15 slices. Thus, the 8 blocks become 120 slices. (8 * 15 = 120)

Then our list comes down to:

  • 210 buns
  • 110 patties
  • 120 slices

We also know that each cheeseburger requires two buns, so the number comes down to 105 bun pairs. (210 / 2 = 105)

The last step is to look at the item with the lowest quantity. Or in other words, we can't have 120 burgers because we will not have enough buns or patties. We also can't have 110 burgers because we will not have enough buns. So the answer is 105 burgers because we will have enough buns (and some remaining patties and slices).
