As a free Black in the South, you had the right to enter the sharecropping system, which could have been a reliable way to make money when crops were sold. However, many Black sharecroppers did not get what was due to them. Why was that?

a. They didn’t work hard enough in the field and the land owner took that out of their pay.
b. They couldn’t read the contract so they had to agree to whatever the land owner gave them.
c. Many years, a storm or flood would wipe out the crop and therefore their share.
d. They didn’t enter into any kind of contract so the land owner wasn’t legally bound to pay them.

Answer: B

Step-by-step explanation:

Why?

Well we know that the white people in the South was never fair with the Black people. They always wanted money. They wrote a very unfair contract and knew that the Black couldn't read it because the white people only had education in the south. Sometimes the black people could get a little education but most of the black people in the south were slaves during this time.
