This hexagon is made up of 12 of the triangles shown.....

find the area of the triangle and multiply by 12 ...

to find the area of the triangle = 1/2 * base * height

you will need Pythagorean theorem for right triangles to calculate the base length:

3.5^2 = b^2 + 3^2

show b = sqrt (3.25 )

then TOTAL area of the hexagon is 12 X 1/2 * sqrt(3.25)(3) = 32.4 units^2
