Two resistors are connected in series. One resistor has a resistance of 1000 ohms, and the other resistor value is unknown. The circuit is connected to a 30V power supply and there is a current of 25mA flowing in the circuit. If a 1500 ohms resistor is connected in parallel with the unknown resistor, how much current will flow in this branch?

Step-by-step explanation:

current= 0.025 amp = 30V/(1000+R)

R = (30-25)/0.025 = 200 ohms.

Resistance of the combination of 200 Ohms and 1500 Ohms is= (200×1500)/(200+1500) = 3000/17 ohms.

Current through the combination of these two resistances is = 30V/(1000+3000/17) ohms = 30×17/20000 = 25.5 mA.

current through the 1500 resistance= 25.5×200/1700

= 3 mA.
