A 1090 kg car moving +11.0 m/s
makes a head-on inelastic collision
with a stationary car. After, they
move +4.75 m/s. What is the mass
of the second car?
(Unit = kg)

Answer:

M1 * V1 = total momentum before collision

(M1 + M2) V2 = momentum after collision

Since momentum is conserved

M1 * V1 = (M1 + M2) V2 (movement positive before and after collision)

M2 = M1 V1 / V2 - M1 = 1090 * 11 / 4.75 - 1090

M2 = 1434 kg
