Emotions, assumptions, and biases all affect an individual’s thinking in that they all persuade a different perception of a set of ideas.

With emotions, we see things differently because we allow our emotions to control our responses. An example would be to tell somebody out of anger that “I hate you.” This isn’t meant literally; however, it is said in the heat of the moment.

Assumptions affect thinking in that they influence conclusions with no evidence to back up the claim. An example of this would be to assume a person is poor solely by the clothes they wear.

Biases affect a person’s thinking by the utilization of grudges as a crutch or form of justification for a false or inaccurate claim. An example would be the anecdotal fallacy in how people perceive the United States after the Civil War.

These three factors affect our thinking by basing our negative conclusions off what we may see as the truth, but in reality a different view exists and is accurate.
