a new set of car tires has a thread depth of 8 milimiters. The thread depth decreases by 0.12 milimeter per thousands miles driven. Write an equation that gives the tread depth as a function of the distance driven. Then determine at what distance the tread deppth will be 2 mm

Explanation:

Starts at 8 mm.... then you subtract .12 per THOUSAND miles:

Depth = 8 - .12 x where 'x' is thousands of miles

When is 'depth' = 2 ?

2 = 8 - .12 x

-6 = -.12 x

x = 50 or 50 THOUSAND miles
