Answer:

y=125°

Explanation:

We are given 2 intersecting lines, which means that opposite angles will be congruent based on vertical angle theorem.

So, we can write an equation and solve for x:

x+20=3x-50

subtract x from both sides

20=2x-50

add 50 to both sides

70=2x

divide both sides by 2

35=x

Substitute the x value into one of the equations:

x+20

35+20

=55

We know that a straight line's angle is 180°, and we have one angle (55), so we can solve for y as:

180= 55+y

subtract 55 from both sides

125=y

So, y=125°.

Hope this helps! :)

Solution:

The diagram shows the two intersecting Lines.If two lines intersect each other then the vertically opposite angles formed are equal.

Here, x + 20 and 3x + 50 are the vertically opposite angles which are equal.

\implies \sf x + 20 = 3x - 50

Subtract 3x from both sides,

\implies \sf x+ 20 - 3x = 3x - 50 - 3x

\implies \sf 20 - 2x = -50

Subtract 20 from both sides,

\implies \sf 20 - 2x - 20 = - 50 - 20

\implies \sf -2x = -70

Divide both sides by -2,

\implies \sf (-2x)/(-2) = ( -70)/(-2)

\implies \sf x = 35

Also If two lines intersect each other then the linear angles formed are adjacent, i.e add upto 180°

\implies \sf x + 20 + y = 180 [Linear pair]

Substituting the value of x here,

\implies \sf 35 + 20 + y = 180

\implies \sf 55 + y = 180

\implies \sf y = 180 -55

\implies \sf y = 125

Hence, The value of y is 125°
