Suppose the height of male adults in a community is normally distributed with a mean of 165.7 cm and standard deviation of 9 cm. Approximately, the height of 95% of female adults in that community will be centred around the mean and between which two values? Use empirical rule to answer this question.

Answer:

between 147.7cm------183.7cm

Explanation:

To answer this question, it is important to know that middle 95% of population is within 2 standard deviation. In this case standard deviation is 9cm, therefore 2 standard deviation would be 18cm.

Now we have to work with the mean and 2 standard deviation in order to find minimum of middle 95% and maximum of middle 95%. In order to do that we have to subtract 18cm from 165.7cm (to find the minimum) and add 18cm to 165.7cm (to find the maximum)

165.7cm-18cm=147.7cm(minimum)

165.7cm+18cm=183.7cm(maximum)

Overall, the middle 95% would be between 147.7cm and 183.7cm

hope it helped, let me know if you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer.
