The answer is 0

Explanation:

When asked to find an absolute maximum or minimum, you should always get a y-value as an answer.

The interval given to you in this question [-2,2] are actually x values you have to plug into the original equation to find the y value.

So plug in all your choices into the equation!

  • f(x)=\sqrt{4-(-2)^(2) }=
    √(4-4) =0

  • f(x)=\sqrt{4-(0)^(2) }=
    f(x)=√(4-(0)) } =
    √(4) =2

  • f(x)=\sqrt{4-(1)^(2) }=
    f(x)=√(4-1 ) =
    √(3) ≈ 1.73

  • f(x)=\sqrt{4-(2)^(2) }=
    √(4-4) = 0

From these answers, the largest y-value (2) is the answer. The x-value from the interval that gave us this answer was 0, so the answer is 0.
