Here is a 350 word adapted short story based on "The Interlopers" by Saki:
The Rivals
Ulrich and Georg had been enemies since boyhood. Their grandfathers had fought over a disputed forest boundary, and the feud was passed down to them.
One winter night, Ulrich decided to patrol the forest to protect it from Georg and his men. As a storm picked up, he became lost in the swirling snow. Suddenly he stumbled upon Georg, who was also lost in the storm.
The two rivals glared at each other, ready to fight. But before they could act, a large tree branch snapped off overhead and came crashing down, pinning them both beneath it. They were trapped together, face to face.
As the bitter cold set in, their anger faded. They realized that neither could get free without the other's help. After struggling unsuccessfully, they resigned themselves to getting through the night together, relying on each other's body heat for warmth.
In the morning, rescuers found them exhausted but alive. The shared ordeal changed something in them. They realized how petty their feud was in the larger scope of life. From then on, Ulrich and Georg let go of their enmity and became friends. The forest boundary was shared between their families, who worked together in harmony from that day forth.
The experience taught Ulrich and Georg that we are not so different from those we call enemies. Often it just takes a change in circumstance to reveal our shared humanity.
