THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

Assessment
Think about the traditions you have today. Do you have Taco Tuesday dinner with your family? Or every Thanksgiving do you travel to a relative's house? How have you felt when traditions you like have changed or been disrupted? The Industrial Revolution impacted nearly every aspect of people's lives, from the economy, to technology, to the daily life of every person. The traditions people were used to were changed, disrupted, or made practically impossible. To really understand the scope of the Industrial Revolution, consider these statistics:

In 1800, about 90 percent of the global population lived and worked on farms.
Today around 1 percent of people farm.
Once factories and machinery increased due to the Industrial Revolution, many people left the farming sector to get jobs in factories in the cities. Traditions were forever changed.

Directions
Your task for this assessment is to evaluate the perspective of a person living in the 1800s and how their traditions changed because of the Industrial Revolution. You will need to complete the chart about what life was like for a common person living in the United States during the Industrial Revolution and what life was like after the Industrial Revolution. In each category, write at least two complete sentences describing how life was during and after industrialization. Be sure to include details from the lesson.

After completing the chart, answer the following reflection question in one complete paragraph:

In your opinion, what would have been the most difficult adjustment in the process of going from farming life to life in a factory town? Provide details from the lesson to support your answer.

As always, remember to use the template below—either submit it after filling it out or reference it to make sure you don't miss any part of the assignment.

The Industrial Revolution led to rapid changes in living and working conditions

Technological changes

The Industrial Revolution saw the use of new materials, energy sources, and machines
