The length of the garden is 5m longer than its width and the area is 14m^(2). How long is the garden? (Show your solution for 3 points )

7 meters

Explanation:

w = the width

w + 5 = Length

area = lw

14 = w(w + 5)

14 =
w^(2) + 5w


w^(2) + 5w -14 = 9 Factor

(w +7)(w-2) = 0

w + 7 = 0

w = -7 a width cannot be a negative number

w-2 = 0

w = 2

The width is 2 and the length is 7 (5 + 2)
