A car increases its speed from 12 m/s to 25 m/s in a time of 8.0 seconds. Determine (a) the constant acceleration of the car and (b) the force acting on the engine, in Newtons (N), if its mass is 1100 kg.

Part (a)


a=(\Delta v)/(\Delta t)=(25-12)/(8)=1.6\text{ m/s}^2

Part (b)


F=ma=(1100)(1.6)=1800\text{ N}
