Answer:

40.87 degrees

Explanation:

flag pole + shadow = TRIANGLE

tan is opposite/adjacent

angle of elevation of the sun = adjacent/opposite = arc tan or tan^-1

flag pole = height = 45 = adjacent

shadow = base = 52 = opposite

in calculator set it for degrees not radians

arc tan or tan^-1 (45/52) = 40.8724082975

Answer: The angle of elevation is 41 degrees

Explanation:

Given:

there is a flag pole having a height of (h) = 45 feet

the length of the shadow of the flag pole along the ground (l) = 52 feet

to find :

what is the angle of elevation A of the sun ( round your answer to the nearest degree)

procedure:

to find the angle of elevation i.e,

Tan A =

as per the question given ,

the height of the flag pole acts as the opposite side of the triangle

therefore, the opposite side = 45 feet,

the length of the shadow of the flag pole will act as the adjacent side of the triangle,

therefore, the adjacent side = 52 feet,

angle of elevation is ,

Tan A =

=> Tan A =

=> A =

=> A = 40.8724

as we have to take the nearest degree,

A = 40.8724 ≅ 41
