The porter brings up their bags and refunds them $5 because the hotel is running a weeknight special. The three friends each keep one of the dollars and give the porter a $2 tip. Later, they sit down to work out their expenses for the weekend and find they have a problem.

They each paid $10 for the room and got $1 back each, making their contributions $9. Then they gave the porter a $2 tip. However, 9 times three is 27, plus two is $29. Where did the extra dollar go?​

Total budget = $30

individual room budget = $10

Refunded money = $5

Note : Each member paid $10 but the refund was $5

$5 ÷ 3 = 1.6666666

That means each person paid $10 -$1.6666666 = $8.333333

After their calculation

The sum of The Hotel fee + The individual refund + Money given to portal

For each person = $ 9.33333

since they are 3 people, multiply by 3

9.33333 * 3 = $27.999999

Now add the money given to the portal

= 27.9999+ 2

= 29.99999

= $30.
