minutes, which was stated in a statistical study. A sample of 10 employees

a. A pen company claims that you can constantly write for at least 10 hours
with their pen. A random sample of 18 pens are selected. The average
writing time for those 18 pens was 9.8 hours. Company records show that

hypothesis test with α=0.05.

b. How many calories do we eat, when we go to a fast food restaurant? Adult
customers were surveyed as they exited major restaurant chains, and their
receipts were collected. From the receipt information, the number of
calories were determined. 3855 people were surveyed, and they consumed
an average of 857 calories. The population standard deviation for calories
consumed at a restaurant is 678. We want to know if people consume more
than the recommended 750 calories, for a lunch meal. Carry out a
hypothesis test with α=0.01.

c. A fast food restaurant estimates that the mean sodium content in one of its
breakfast sandwiches is no more than 920 milligrams. A random sample of
44 breakfast sandwiches has a mean sodium content of 925 with a
population standard deviation of 18 milligrams. Carry out a hypothesis test
with α=0.05.

d. A credit card company claims that the mean credit card debt for individuals
is greater than $5000. You want to test this claim. You find that a random
sample of 37 cardholders has a mean credit card balance of $5122 and a

α=0.01.
