Americans feared that the Japanese living in America were spies for Japan. An act was passed in which the Japanese were placed in internment camps which was a violation of their constitutional rights but was deemed necessary for the safety of the country.

Many Americans viewed Japanese Americans with suspicion and fear after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This led to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.
