Now,

for the weekdays,

1 hour of work counts for 1 hour of payment

For saturday,

This gives the equation,

P = x + (11/2)y + 2z

where x is the number of hours Joan works on weekdays,

y is the number of hours they work on Saturday

z is the number of hours they work on Sunday

Now,

in our case,

x = 40

y = 8

z = 6

then,

P = 40 + (11/2)(8) + 2(6)

P = 96 hours
