Yes, teams need a leader to be successful. Leaders help to create a clear direction and path for a group to move in. Without a clear idea of what a team needs to work on, they can’t be productive or sure of what they need to do. Leaders also help to guide their team and boost morale. They can encourage their team which will help them to keep going when it gets hard. Leaders also generally have more experience than others on a team, and thus, they are more knowledgeable. They have the skill set to be able to correct a team and guide them towards their goals. They are also an essential part of the team’s communication. They can notice where they need to improve their communication and make sure everyone is on the same page. Without a designated leader, a team could also be more prone to conflict. A leader has the authority to sort things out, and prevent arguments that would get in the way of a team.
