These two functions intersect.

y=x+2

y=2x+3

Set the equations equal to each other, as shown in the notes, and solve for x. (It then says show all of your work but I just need help understanding the problem)

X=-1 this is because you have to get the X alone then you can solve the rest from there

if you plot these two functions (which are both straight line graphs), you will see that they intersect at one point. The value of x you are trying to find is the x-coordinate of the point of intersection (see attached graph).

x + 2 = 2x + 3

subtract x from both sides: 2 = x + 3

subtract 3 from both sides: -1 = x

Therefore, x = -1

Sub x = -1 into either of the functions to get the y-coordinate of the point of intersection:

y = -1 + 2 = 1

So the point of intersection is (-1, 1)
